Fashion Weeks around the world. Tons of talented and unique designers! Do you even have the slightest notion of wat all happened last weeks and what is happening this week during the AIFW?
(Check that: the AFW. That's the updated name for the Fashion Week in Amsterdam, to make a clear distinction between the up and downtown program and focus more on customers. So I heard and so I read: "AIFW wordt AFW; Sjaak Hullekes en Bas Kosters openen". Although the URL of the website still contains the i: http://aifw.nl/)
Last Thursday I got to the chance to show two designs of Sarena Huizinga. I had no idea who was in the audience and how they liked it. I had no idea of the designer showing right before. I certainly had no idea of what happened after these shows and of what happened last week. And I still don't have the slightest clue what happened during the NY Fashion Week and the Fashion Weeks in Milan or Paris.
So my first idea to give you an overview of the latest fashion trends around the world en the most talented upcoming designers, I am not able to present to you. I can't keep up with all the spamming on facebook and on the web, of which I am totally guilty too b.t.w. So let me keep it simple and tell you how to save yourself from too much muchness. Too many influences your mind was not created to deal with. Let me tell you about the egg shell trick.
When use the egg shell trick? Situation: Designers with their own creative ideas, photographers wanting to take the best pictures, hair stylists wanting to build the perfect scultpure on top of your head, make-up artists telling eachother the latest tips and tricks, models bored or running around, and the entire team responsible for the organization, walking around to make sure to stick to the schedule in a admirable leading yet relaxing way. What do you do?
How to use the egg shell trick?: Focus on your thing. Block the rest. Let the organization be the glue, sticking the fashion event together. Live in your safe egg shell and enjoy what you're doing. And that is I think what it is. Enjoy YOUR thing. You will see the pictures later on facebook and twitter, you will read the stories in news papers and glossies, later. And then you can become aware of how your thing made the fashion weeks al possible. You can't simply grab the whole thing at once.
Well, we just have to trust now the photographers and journalists focused on their thing too. Enjoy some of the media exposure!
There's a lot home-made stuff. ILB selected some video's for you. And since Amsterdam International Fashion Week changed into Amsterdam Fashion Week, there is videos in Dutch too...
