Were you meant to be a super model?

What do you want to be. An actress? Hairdresser? Baker? Firefighter? Business woman? What do you think, are you born as, for instance hairdresser? Do you come out of your egg and think: "Yep, I know I was born to make a great hairdresser and I don't have to learn anything, I AM one" Do you think that's realistic?

Well, I don't. To apply this to models:  I think it isn't realistic to believe that supermodels are born. Of course, there is a lot of physique that you need to be lucky to have, but there is so much more to it. It is not only making sure you eat healthy, work out on a regular basis,  always wash off your

make-up before you go to sleep after a night out, but you can LEARN how to model also. There are so many tricks and skills, it's a severe study. And it's confronting. You need to know your body better than anyone else, hide your flaws, accentuate your strenghts. Or as Tyra Banks says: make from your weakness your strength. This is what she always says when she mentions her big forehead. You have to open up, show yourself, put yourself out there and try the most extreme poses and faces you can. Be innovative. Creative. A nice person to work with.

Every week from now on, I will write about that: Skills and tips to be a (better) model. I participated in "Making of a model'. I started to learn modeling. I learnt how to pose. I learnt to think 2-dimensional. The photographer behind this? Ronnie Hertz. He has worked with international celebrities like Sophia Loren, Jerry Hall and Bryan Ferry, but also with Dutch celebs like Daphne Deckers, Katja Schuurman and Bridget Maasland. What I love in Ronnie's work is the uniqueness in his work. He doen't want to go with the current flow, so to speak, but let the style of photography from years ago shine through.

Okay, enough of that. What can you do to become a great model NOW?

Follow my weekly blogs on ILikeBirds.org and ... practice! Buy high heels, a mirror and shape up to practice your poses daily. I will post the first lesson Saturday the 25th.
